DESCRIPTION

We went back to the basics with our Richbrau Lager. At 5% abv, it’s one of the lightest and most refreshing beers in our portfolio. This newly handcrafted recipe produces a traditional light pilsner-style lager. The grain bill is entirely classic German malts of Pilsner, Vienna and Munich. A subtle Saaz hop profile brings everything nicely into balance. After primary fermentation, it is lagered for 6 weeks at 33 degrees before packaging.

BACKSTORY:

It was 1933 and FDR had just ended Prohibition. Within a few months, Home Brewing Co. was rolling out the first kegs of Richbrau Lager to retailers in Richmond.  Over the next 35 years brewmasters George Bernier Sr and his successor Frank B. Wallmeyer would help grow the Richbrau brand to nearly 100,000 barrels per year.  Increasing competition from national brands drove Home Brewing Co. to close in 1969 and Richbrau beer temporarily faded into history.  Today, Richbrau Lager lives on in Richmond, VA and was awarded a Gold Medal at the 2022 Virginia Craft Beer Cup.
